Mrs. Vanderloop

Fourth & Fifth Grade Band Teacher

At Randall, students start band in 4th grade and many continue all the way thru high school. In the first semester of fourth grade, students get to try every band instrument in order to find their right fit. Typically, each student is on each instrument for about 3 weeks. After the first semester, the students will decide which of the instruments fit them the best and that is the instrument they will commit themselves to in 5th grade, 6th grade, and beyond. If you are curious about band or have any questions or concerns, I encourage you to e-mail or call me and I would be more than happy to talk with you.

I have been teaching at Randall since 2004 and enjoy teaching students in the beginning stages of learning how to play an instrument. I feel that music is an important part of a well rounded education that helps students to express their emotions, work on fine motor skills, work as a team, as well as use complex thinking skills. When I was in the sixth grade I started to learn how to play the clarinet. Since then I have loved playing instruments--and yes, I can play all of them:) At Randall I not only teach band, but I am also a Randall mom, which gives me many other opportunities to be part of the Randall community. Additionally, things I enjoy are doing fun things with my family, hanging out with friends, and running.
